Move to Improve

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommend children and adolescents aged 6-17 get ≥60 minutes of activity daily and preschool children (3-5) should shoot for 180 min/day.
Here are 7 different ideas for getting your kid more active and moving throughout the day.
- Active Family Outings
- Plan trips to parks, hiking trails, or nature reserves where everyone can walk, bike, or play together.
- Obstacle Courses at Home
- Set up a fun obstacle course using household items like pillows, chairs, and jump ropes to encourage movement.
- Dance Parties
- Have regular family dance sessions where everyone can enjoy music and get moving together.
- Chore Challenges
- Turn chores into games! Create a timed challenge to see who can complete tasks like sweeping or gardening the fastest.
- Sports/Park Days with Friends
- Organize regular sports days where kids and their friends can play soccer, basketball, or play at the park together.
- Movement Breaks
- Incorporate short movement breaks during homework or screen time to stretch or do quick exercises.
- Gardening Together
- Get kids involved in gardening tasks, which can include digging, planting, and watering—great ways to stay active!
By integrating these fun activities into daily life, kids can stay active while enjoying time with family and friends!
